The Project

Amandine Crozat, visual artist and Aude Mercier, textile designer gather around a photographic project entitled The New Chiefs. This unprecedented four-handed series started in 2016 and aims to establish a parallel between the great American Indian chiefs and the punk movement through the creation of headdresses and plant ornaments. Between ethnology and botany, photography and installation, craftsmanship and styling, this series highlights the relationship between the individual and his environment through the hair theme. Signifiers of the personality, these objects of multiple shapes reflect an era, a culture or a status. From the social norm to its contestation, they embody several meanings.

The two artists share the same sensitivity as to the link between man and nature, his origins and his personal and collective history. Also, they integrate recycling of materials in their craftsmanship and in their creative process. This collaboration will give them the opportunity to explore a new field of possibilities.

Graduated from a Research Master in Plastic Arts at the University of Paris I, Amandine Crozat lives and works in Paris. She takes her inspiration from her many travels and explores both photography and installations to build her phantasmagorical stagings. She participated in several exhibitions since 2007 in France and abroad (Germany, England, Korea,South, United States, Italy) as well as two international residencies COMP (Crossing of Movements Project, Art District_p) in South Korea. In 2013, she received the 1st Prize for the Archisle exhibition #2 in Jersey and participated in Nuit Blanche in Paris the following year.
