The Project

Simon pursues a process initiated with basket makers from the Atelier Foutu Brin and a young glassblower, Nicolas Angelini; that he met during a trip in the heart of rural France.

His project at the Foundation, where he gathered with Christophe Baugier (Atelier Foutu Brin), consists in pursuing this reflection on hot decor and experimental work between basketry and glassblowing; in this case with Jean-Charles Miot & Laetitia Andrighetto.

Weaving can be done from various plants such as wicker, date palm, chestnut, clematis, hemp, etc. Christophe weaves wicker shapes that serve as molds in which the glass is blown. When the two materials come into contact, the wicker cracks, burns and is consumed. At this moment, the burning plant marks the mineral element: molten glass. The basketwork is destroyed but marks the surface of the glass forever.

Born in Châteauroux, trained at L’ENSCI les Ateliers (National School of Industrial Creation), Simon is an artist, designer and ceramicist. He travels through neglected French territories in order to offer his services by taking advantage of local resources and issues. He travels through rural France and questions the role of the designer in the countryside.

Christophe Baugier – Atelier Foutu Brin

The Foutu Brin wicker workshop is formed by the basket weavers Christophe and Virginie Baugier, based in Montgivray. They cultivate around ten varieties of willows which they transform, among other things, into various baskets and garden weavings.
