National Architecture Days

ARCHITECTURAL TOUR OF THE GÂTEBOURSE TOWER
National Architecture Days from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 October 2022

For the first time, the Fondation d’entreprise Martell is participating in the National Architecture Days by offering an exclusive architectural tour of its building, an innovative Bauhaus-style tower built in the late 1920s and designed by architect Jean Chalard, under the direction of the Société des Grands Travaux de Marseille.

In 2005, this industrial production site housing the bottling lines of Maison Martell was transferred to Rouillac, leaving it disused. Ten years later, work begins to rehabilitate and transform it. It becomes a cultural space for the general public, but also dedicated to design professionals, who come for residencies in the production workshops to work on projects related to the climate transition.

The renovation was carried out in collaboration with the Bordeaux architectural firm Brochet Lajus Pueyo, recognized for its expertise and its respect for the region’s heritage and urban landscape. The firm applied a High Environmental Quality Development process.

In addition to the heritage aspect, by participating in these Days, the Fondation wishes to highlight the role of architects and designers in redefining the world of tomorrow and reinventing our lifestyles in a context of crisis, in particular the energy and climate crisis. The Fondation will use its own building for experimentations and will invite designers and experts to explore a number of projects questioning the relationship between architecture and the environment in the face of current challenges. For example, how to make buildings less energy-consuming, greener and the benefits of biosourced or plant-based materials, etc…
