WOODWORKING WORK FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES

The Martell Corporate Foundation offers an immersive experience in the world of furniture making, designed specifically for young people. Each child, guided by cabinetmaker Mathias Heinisch, will create a bird feeder out of maple wood and learn how to use traditional tools (wastringue, plane, scraper, etc.).

Workshop Objectives
– Explore the workshop and become familiar with the tools and how they work: planes, wastringues, etc.
– Learn about the properties and textures of wood
– Learn exclusively hand-based techniques

Safety Guidelines:
– Wear flat, closed-toe shoes (safety shoe covers will be provided)
– Wear comfortable clothing
– Tie back long hair
An apron, cut-resistant gloves, and ear protection will be provided before the workshop.
Participants will not use power tools

One Saturday per month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Cost per session: €45 (payable on-site by check or cash).
Maximum of 7 children per session. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Mathias Heinisch has a cabinetmaking background. He designs and creates custom furniture and fittings for private individuals, businesses, or artists. He primarily works with local woods and, whenever possible, reclaimed wood (oak, walnut, cedar, boxwood, maple, ash). He has also worked in a luthier workshop where he built and restored guitars.

GLASS IMMERSION

Try Your Hand at Glassmaking

The Martell Corporate Foundation is offering a one-day introductory workshop providing an immersive experience in its glass studio.

Working alongside glass artisans, participants will discover various glassmaking techniques—such as glassblowing, sculpting, and the use of color—and create three pieces per person (two glasses and one custom piece designed with the artisans).

Workshop Objectives:
– Explore the workshop and its tools: kilns, glass rods, etc.
– Learn the basics of glassmaking techniques
– Shape and blow simple forms using glass rods

Safety Guidelines:
– Wear flat, closed-toe shoes (safety overshoes provided)
– Wear cotton clothing with a long-sleeved top
– Bring a water bottle
– Tie back your hair

One Saturday per month, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Valentin Rizzo is a passionate glass artisan specializing in stained glass and glassblowing. Trained at Cerfav (European Center for Research and Training in Glass Arts) and with Jean-Pierre Bellion, he has acquired expertise ranging from production to research and creation work for designers, notably at Fluid in Brittany. Valentin has collaborated with renowned artists and won the 3rd national prize in the Prix Avenir Métiers d’art competition (organized by INMA) with his piece “Instant suspendu”. In parallel, he is also an international athlete in highline (a balance sport, slackline above the void), a discipline he has practiced for about ten years.

Gaëtan Oheix is a glass artisan. Although his career initially took a scientific direction, with studies at ENTPE and a master’s thesis on river renaturation, Gaëtan has been passionate about glassblowing since childhood. After a decisive experience in Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert’s workshop, he decided to retrain and obtained a CAP in glass and crystal art, specializing in blowpipe techniques, between the Bayel glass workshop and CERFAV. There, he acquired a solid technical and artistic training, exploring various glassworking methods. Currently, he continues his artistic development, having completed the Glass Creator training, where he realized several projects demonstrating his creativity and mastery of glass techniques.

INTRODUCTION TO WOODWORKING

These introductory sessions on woodworking techniques, designed by cabinetmaker Mathias Heinisch, offer participants the opportunity to become familiar with traditional woodworking tools (plane, chisel, saw, wastringue, scraper) with the goal of learning how to create a side table from salvaged scraps of local lumber.

Workshop Objectives
– Explore the workshop and become familiar with the tools and how they work: planes, chisels, wastringues, etc.
– Learn about the properties and textures of wood
– Learn exclusively hand-based techniques for building a shelf

Safety Guidelines:
– Wear flat, closed-toe shoes (safety shoe covers will be provided)
– Wear comfortable clothing
– Tie back long hair
An apron, cut-resistant gloves, and ear protection will be provided before the workshop.
Participants will not use power tools.
