Conceived as a sculptural piece in its own right, this fountain-bench offers visitors both a drinking point and a place to pause. Each glass block, hand-cast and coloured using glass powder oxidised by flame, was custom-made by the glass artisans of Fondation Martell.

The entire reception area of the MADD was designed by Jean-Baptiste Fastrez, who sought to create a deliberately domestic atmosphere. The project incorporates materials reclaimed from the museum’s renovation works (2023–2026), reflecting a commitment to resource-conscious design while preserving and revealing the memory of the site. These reused elements are combined with raw materials such as metal and glass, echoing the architectural concept of the project.

The MADD warmly thanks Fondation Martell and its glassmakers, Valentin Rizzo and Gaëtan Oheix, for hosting Jean-Baptiste Fastrez during a residency in January 2026.

The MADD is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed on Tuesdays and public holidays, except on 14 July and 15 August.

Born in 1984, Jean-Baptiste Fastrez lives and works in Biarritz, France. In 2011, he was awarded the Grand Prix by the jury of Design Parade 6 at Villa Noailles (Hyères, France). The same year, he established his own design studio in Paris.

His collaborators and partners include Hay (Denmark), Sèvres – Cité de la Céramique, the CIRVA glass research centre in Marseille, Moustache, and Galerie Kreo in London and Paris. His work has been exhibited at VIA in Paris, mudac in Lausanne, Grand-Hornu in Belgium, and the Museum of Art in Seoul.

Several of his works are held in the collections of Villa Noailles in Hyères, the CNAP (Centre National des Arts Plastiques), and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
