#MarieBette came to the Martell Corporate Foundation for an artist-in-residence program to create, alongside glass artisans Valentin Rizzo and Gaëtan Oheix, the “Lampe 2” diffuser—a light sculpture that operates without electricity. Daylight is captured by lenses near a window or outside the building, then directed through optical fibers to the center of the room. The light variations in “Lampe 2” shift and follow the intensity of daylight.

This piece will be exhibited at the 19CRAC in Montbéliard next September as part of an exhibition exploring the concept of hybridity in the broadest sense: between species, between genders, between cultures and territories, between moments in history, and so on. It will be used to cast a soft glow on a 19th-century newspaper clipping depicting a harpy from the collections of the Montbéliard Museums.

Marie Bette was born in 1988. She lives and works in Paris and Corsaint. She creates sculptural works using diverse materials such as clay, wax,
plastic, textile fibers, and metal, employing a wide range of techniques.

The 19 CRAC is a contemporary art center based in Montbéliard, dedicated to supporting artistic creation through the production of artworks, artist residencies, and exhibitions.
