Project

At the start of the project, fenders, that serve to protect the hull of the boat against shocks, friction and external contacts. In London, Jean-François lives on a canal boat, and this object which has become familiar to him evokes the idea of protection; he imagines and conceives it as a talisman. The artist uses different processes, including the technique of lost wax molded glass, to transcend this rope fender and make it out of glass.
The artist likes to use fluid materials in various forms (water, milk, secretions, resins, perfume) for his work. Thus, during his residency, he also initiated the design of a fountain, using his own body and his prints (back, hands, foot). Like a “blessing” ritual, with a magical liquid, but with a notion of danger and toxicity from the chosen glass, the aquatic installation invites you to touch. This inspiration stems among other things from his interest in landscape architecture and the therapeutic or toxic properties of plants and the substances they produce.
