Context driven :  vernacular agricultural tools

Industrial designer based in Valencia (Spain), Vicent Orts has developed a committed and sustainable practice that favors the use of local and pre-existing resources rather than the consumption of new raw materials. His work is rooted in an exploration of the materials available in his immediate environment, in close connection with traditional know-how.

During his residency, his research will focus on vernacular practices, particularly in rural areas, by observing the unique uses of agricultural tools. The project “Context Driven” aims to document a selection of objects, techniques, and constructions developed by farmers and winegrowers in the Cognac region. He is particularly interested in the wires and cables used in vineyards, capable of connecting, assembling, and structuring objects through tension alone.

The principles drawn from this study will feed into the conventional design processes and take the form of a collection of eco-designed furniture or objects.
