Place aux Jeunes Musiciens

Guermantes string Quartet - in partnership with L’Abbaye aux Dames

This year, for the festival de Saintes, the Fondation d’entreprise Martell hosts the concert “Place aux Jeunes Musiciens”. This is the opportunity to show the newly renovated first floor – Guermantes string Quartet performs on the terrace with an inspiring view on the former wine warehouses, the garden and the paved courtyard. Haydn, Mozart and Kraus’s music fills this building full of memories. The musicians propose a new way to fill the edifice with life and their concert will enhance the interdisciplinary aspect of the Foundation cultural program.

A Foundation guided tour, scheduled at 3h30 pm, is offered to anyone with a concert ticket.

Guermantes string Quartet was created in 2010 by Josépha Jégard, violin, and Olivia Guther, cello, following their meeting at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz of Cologne. They wished to pursue their musical research with the Julia Boyer, violin, and Jean-Marc Haddad, viola.

These four musicians are especially dedicated to the classic and romantic period, attracted by the variety of colors and timbers of periodical instruments and the respect of the composing, at once erudite and natural.

Guermantes Quartet aims at promoting the «Sturm und Drang» movement, through little-known – yet crucial, composers, such as Joseph Martin Kraus (1756-1792) and Hyacinthe Jadin (1776-1800), facing the interpretation of major sting quartet works by Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
